Los Angeles
After a long, delayed 9 hour flight, we finally arrived in America. Unfortunately, having not booked any accommodation before our arrival, we were greeted to the news that nearly all hostels and motels were fully booked for that evening! Luckily (or unluckily!) the Information Centre at the airport managed to find us a hotel in one of the nicest locations in Los Angeles – Inglewood! For those of you that have never heard of it, it’s the kind of place that you definitely don’t venture out of your hotel after dark and are brave if you do so during the day! After checking in we were brave (and hungry!) and took a short walk to grab a take-away only to be confronted with bullet proof windows at the fast food counter!!!!
After surviving our first night in LA, we were somewhat more lucky and found a hostel right in the centre of Hollywood on the Walk of Fame. Within minutes of arriving in Hollywood, we met one of our new neighbours, Matt Damon, who was there for the unveiling of his star on the Walk of Fame!!

Over the next few days we did some clothes shopping in our local shops (Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills...only one of the most expensive neighbourhoods in the world!!) We also spent the day at Venice Beach...this time not sunning ourselves but instead watching all the local freaks! I mean, where else in the world can you watch an electric guitar-playing Indian (in full Indian clothing) rollerblading along the promenade, whilst alongside him is a guy with no legs and only one arm skateboarding whilst smoking a cigarette!
